Condemnation Machine

Disciplines Sculpture

Released 1996

The five judges stare forward over the head of the Delinquent waiting to pronounce his fate. As water fills the judges’ mouths to their individual tilting points the jaws move and speak their judgement of the Delinquent’s crime.

The Delinquent, who waits beneath the judges, stands in the water until the point when any three of the five pour their condemnation upon him. Weighed down by their watery verdicts he falls: the crime has been punished.

Silence and darkness fall. Slowly the water seeps from the Delinquent’s container. Once the weight is relieved he stands up, the light is switch on and the water begins to flow. A new judgement day begins . . .
