The Water Cinema

Is like the shadow play, a cinema of the moment..
It creates pictures, which are not repeatable, because every image of every movement is only created once and therefore unique, just like the movements of water itself.
A spatial looking image of moving water is created, in which forms become apparent, which are not viewable in the water itself

The Principle

A round cup (diameter 80cm) of the approx height of 1 cm is filled with water.
This round cup can be moved and reshaped slightly with the help of two tackles, controlled by a console.
The light, coming from a specially modified spotlight, hits the water surface, and is reflected onto a screen.
A very fine, and detailed image of the water surface emerges on the screen, giving the impression of spatial depth.

Just a Drop

Between the two levers on the console, a button is situated. By pressing this button, a small drop is released onto the water surface, disrupting the recent image and creating several dynamic new ones.
