“And men go abroad to admire the heights of mountains, the mighty waves of the sea, the broad tides of rivers, the compass of the ocean, and the circuits of the stars, yet pass over the mystery of themselves without a thought.”
St Augustine
Named after the Italian poet Francesco Petrarch (1304-1374) the visual appeal and design of the
bath draws on the life and legacy of Petrarch – a figure of great historical note, he conceptualised
the phrase ‘Dark Ages’ and is credited with inspiring the humanist philosophy, which led to the
intellectual flowering of the Renaissance.
Conceived to service two distinct purposes: 1. Adult relaxation. & 2. Child’s bather, Petrarch’s Bath responds to contemporary bathing practices in the home, where adults are likely to seek the restorative and remedial advantages of bathing and where parents and family attend to young children, washing them nightly in the tub.
