As Apple Mac was still yet to become mainstream their machines and software were still the exclusive reserve of the design and publishing industry...
In the late 1990's one of the best kept design secrets in magazine design was MacUser magazine.
MacUser had a design culture / ethos unlike any other at the time, with it's sector.
The publisher (MacUser) knew that the very people who read their magazine were the very people designing with the tools it was publicizing. They were design and they knew it. So the magazine spent it's time courting young designers and design agencies like mine (OrangeCurve) to get them to design the magazine for them - and for free!
I was invited to design a lot for them and was also privileged to be asked to design the year 2000 edition cover and inside spreads. They are all that I have left from thirty or so works but they are my favorite as they show the first properly designed Apple laptops (albeit dated by today's standards) and the magazine features articles about the death of film and reprographics - FILM IS DEAD, LONG LIVE THE PDF
By the way - the illustrated guy is an old mate - Steve Allen
